DESCRIPTION
HoldShield Concentrate is a highly concentrated mixture designed to create aqueous solutions that, when applied, form thin, temporary, non-sticky films on cargo hold surfaces. The dilution ratio for HoldShield Concentrate varies depending on the cargo. It is ideal for use before loading highly corrosive cargoes like sulfur, salt, etc. When diluted further, it’s suitable for petcoke, coal, pencil pitch, coke, cement, ores, minerals, feedstock, and other challenging materials.
The film formed from HoldShield Concentrate prevents cargo particles from penetrating the minute pores of the paintwork, where they tend to adhere firmly, thus maintaining cargo holds in a “grain clean” condition. This results in quicker and easier cleaning after unloading.
The product is safe for foodstuffs, does not contaminate cargo, is environmentally friendly, safe for personnel handling it, non-corrosive, and safe on all coatings.
APPLICATION
The diluted solutions derived from HoldShield Concentrate act as barriers and release agents between the cargo hold surface and the next cargo. Apply them to clean surfaces. These solutions can also be sprayed on the superstructure and other areas exposed to dust during loading and unloading operations. However, caution is needed while it is still wet, due to its slippery nature.
USE AND DOSING
Instructions are based on experience and are meant only as a guide since circumstances for each tank cleaning operation vary. They are not intended to interfere with the judgment of the vessel’s responsible personnel.
Before applying the product, ensure cargo residues are removed, and the surface is as dry as possible.
Mixing:
– Highly Corrosive Cargoes (Sulfur, Salt, etc.): Mix 1 part HoldShield Concentrate with 1.5 parts fresh water (with 1 drum of HoldShield Concentrate, produce 2.5 drums of ready-to-use product).
– Other Cargoes (Petcoke, Coal, Pencil Pitch, Coke, Cement, Ores, Minerals, Feedstock): Mix 1 part HoldShield Concentrate with 2 parts fresh water (with 1 drum of HoldShield Concentrate, produce 3 drums of ready-to-use product).
The final solutions are ready-to-use. One liter of final solution covers approximately 15-20 square meters, and a 210-liter drum covers 3000-4000 square meters. For optimal application, spray the product in a sweeping pattern onto the tank surfaces, but brushing or rolling is also possible. A proper film is created when the surface appears water-wet. Avoid applying more than necessary. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the film to cure before loading cargo.
After discharging the cargo, both cargo residues and and the temporary protective film can be easily removed using a power wash of fresh or saltwater. To ensure complete removal and prevent contaminant re-deposition, a cleaning agent like CargoCare HF is recommended, although at lower dosage rates than typically required.
