DESCRIPTION
Garage General Cleaner is a versatile, water-based, non-caustic degreaser that efficiently cleans grease, wax, fats, oil, sludge, soot, carbon deposits, and road grime. It’s safe and environmentally friendly, being non-flammable, biodegradable, and formulated to meet IMO standards.
APPLICATION
Garage General Cleaner is a versatile, IMO-approved cleaning product with numerous applications. It’s ideal for cleaning decks, engine rooms, engines, Ro-Ro and ferry car decks, refrigeration spaces, fishing vessel holds, cargo holds, tanks, and the exteriors of ships, yachts, and pressure boats.
It’s particularly effective as a tank cleaner for cargo holds and tanks, especially after CPP/hydrocarbon cleaning. For optimal results, apply using high-pressure cleaning. To increase contact time on vertical surfaces, add Foam Booster.
USE AND DOSING
Instructions are based on experience and are meant only as a guide since circumstances for each cleaning operation vary. They are not intended to interfere with the judgment of the vessel’s responsible personnel.
Garage General Cleaner is a versatile cleaning solution that can be used in various applications and methods. High-pressure application enhances cleaning results. Never use river or seawater to prepare cleaning solutions.
A. Maintenance Cleaning
Dilution: 5-20% GARAGE GENERAL CLEANER in warm water
Application: Apply to soiled surfaces using brushes, rags, or spray bottles.
Contact Time: 5-10 minutes
Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly with water.
Heavy Soiling: Apply undiluted Garage General Cleaner, taking necessary precautions.
High-Pressure Cleaning: Use a 1-20% Garage General Cleaner solution in fresh warm water.
B. Tank Cleaning
Pre-Cleaning: Flush tanks with water immediately after cargo discharge to prevent residue hardening.
• Recirculation Method:
Flush tanks to remove remaining cargo residues.
Recycle tanks with increasing temperatures (2-8 hours) to remove oily-mud and residue.
Prepare a 0.5-2.0% Garage General Cleaner solution in fresh water.
Recirculate the solution for 2-8 hours at an optimal temperature of 65oC.
Rinse thoroughly with hot fresh water. If large amounts of fresh water are not available, flush tanks with warm seawater (2-3 hours) to remove any residues of chemicals and then flush with fresh water to remove salts, mop and dry. For passing the Wall Wash Test, a final rinse with chloride-free hot water is essential. If necessary, repeat the cleaning procedure.
• Spot Cleaning:
After most CPP / hydrocarbons, residues remain on some areas after tank cleaning. Spray undiluted or diluted Garage General Cleaner on contaminated areas, depending on the type of the residues. If the dilution is heated, it will be more efficient.
Allow 10-30 minutes of contact time. Never allow the product to dry on bare coating.
Rinse thoroughly with fresh water, either with manual flushing with high pressure, or with re-circulation. Heated water will increase the cleaning effect.
C. Cargo Hold Cleaning
Always consult safety instructions and wear appropriate protective equipment.
Ensure adequate ventilation. Pre-clean with high-pressure water to remove large deposits and be sure that the surface has dried before applying the chemicals, in order to avoid unnecessary dilution.
Adjust dosage based on surface area, residue type, and application method.
• Injection: Inject a 50% Garage General Cleaner/water solution and rinse.
• Soaking: Apply undiluted Garage General Cleaner, soak for 30 minutes, and rinse.
Note: If HOLD BARRIER or HOLD BARRIER XR is applied to the cargo hold surfaces prior to loading, reduce the Garage General Cleaner concentration in the cleaning solution.
PRODUCT PROPERTIES
The product may attack zinc, copper, and magnesium at concentrated solutions. May swell synthetic rubber.
When used for tank cleaning, it is highly recommended to always test all cleaner solutions on a small area of tank coating, before full scale application.
