Alkaliquid HD is the solution for most tank cleaning operations. It is applied as a diluted solution to remove greases, vegetable and animal oils, pet coke deposits, dirt, and grime. It’s also suitable for cleaning heavily soiled areas. For tank sanitizing and deodorizing before handling foodstuffs, a final wash with Alkaliquid HD is recommended, especially after using solvent-based tank cleaners.

Alkaliquid HD can be used diluted to remove light fuel and lube oils from cargo and storage tanks, as well as associated systems. It’s also effective for boiling out new or retubed boilers and cleaning contaminated boilers and related systems.

Instructions are based on experience and are meant only as a guide since circumstances for each tank cleaning operation vary. They are not intended to interfere with the judgment of the vessel’s responsible personnel.

Before Tank Cleaning: Removing large oil or residue deposits from the tank prior to cleaning is recommended to ensure effective cleaning and prevent polymerization and evaporation of lighter oil fractions.

Recirculation Method: Prepare a solution of up to 3% Alkaliquid HD in a mixing tank, depending on contamination. Recirculate the solution at 60-80oC for 2-6 hours using an automatic tank washing machine. Heating coils in the tanks can be used for heating. Be mindful of the maximum recirculation temperature, as some natural oils may require lower temperatures due to their polymerizing nature. Ensure sufficient cleaning solution for continuous recirculation by carefully calculating the system’s volume. One cleaning solution typically cleans 2-3 tanks. After chemical cleaning, thoroughly rinse the tanks with water.

Direct Injection: This is the most economical method for tank cleaning. Use Alkaliquid HD by direct injection, followed by recirculation washing using tank cleaning machines.

Manual Cleaning: Wear protective clothing, including goggles and face masks, to prevent liquid from splashing into the eyes. Scrub the area to be cleaned with a brush or broom using generous amounts of the diluted cleaning solution. Flush cleaned surfaces with water.

Changing Refrigerated Cargoes: When changing refrigerated cargoes, clean holds to remove animal or vegetable fat and deodorize. A 5-10% solution of Alkaliquid HD in fresh water can be sprayed on neat and high-pressure hosed off.

Boiler Fireside Cleaning: Apply a 5-10% hot solution to the surfaces to be cleaned by spraying. Allow the solution to penetrate for 20 minutes and flush off. For stubborn deposits, increase the concentration and repeat if necessary.

Concentrated product is incompatible with aluminum, zinc, tin and their alloys. For zinc silicate coatings use Alkaliquid Safety. It is recommended to test all cleaning chemicals on a small area of tank coating, before full scale application.
