DESCRIPTION
CargoTuff is a potent, potassium-based cargo tank cleaner, boosted with fast-acting wetting agents. Its strength can be adjusted by using it neat or diluted with water, depending on the severity of contamination, surface type, water hardness, and temperature.
It’s highly effective at removing animal, vegetable oils and fats, mineral oils, petroleum products, greases, waxes, sludge, carbon deposits, dirt, and grime. It’s particularly effective against inert gas soot. When diluted in water, it’s well-suited for removing lighter grease, oil, pet coke, and dirt deposits.
CargoTuff works effectively in hard, soft, ambient, and hot water. It dries leaving a good shine.
APPLICATION
CargoTuff is ideal for cleaning tanks and refrigeration vessels, as well as removing soot from Inert Gas Systems and general cleaning. It can also remove stains from cargo holds after coal and pet coke. For vertical surfaces, consider adding Foam Booster foam boosting additive.
USE AND DOSING
Instructions are based on experience and are meant only as a guide since circumstances for each tank cleaning operation vary. They are not intended to interfere with the judgment of the vessel’s responsible personnel.
Before Tank Cleaning: Ensure that tanks and lines are thoroughly stripped and drained. Avoid excessive heating as it can alter cargo characteristics and potentially burn cargo on the bulkhead. Always read cargo specifications carefully. Precleaning tanks with high-pressure warm water is strongly recommended to remove large deposits of oil or other residues, ensuring a thorough cleaning operation. For drying or semi-drying oils, prewash with cold water immediately after discharging to prevent hard residue formation.
Recirculation Method: Prepare a 1-5% (or stronger for heavy contamination) solution of CargoTuff in fresh water in the service tank. Recirculate the solution at 65-70oC for 2-8 hours, depending on cargo and tank size. One solution can typically clean 3-4 tanks. Rinse tanks with warm seawater at 55-60oC for 1-3 hours. Finally, flush tanks with freshwater to remove salts, mop, and dry.
Direct Injection: Prepare a 0.1-2.0% solution for tank washing machines (1-20 liters per ton of wash water). Stronger solutions may be necessary for heavily contaminated surfaces.
Spray Method: Spray undiluted or up to 20% in fresh water directly onto stains. Allow the solution to penetrate the soil for approximately 30 minutes before rinsing with water. Always wash off before chemicals dry on the surface.
Inert Gas Systems Soot (IGS) Removal: Use high-pressure cleaning equipment to spray CargoTuff onto the surface, mixing 1 liter per 4 liters of water. For hand sprayers, apply 1 liter of neat CargoTuff per 12 m2. Allow the solution to penetrate for 30-45 minutes, then wash off thoroughly with high-pressure fresh water heated to 80oC. Ensure complete removal before chemicals dry. Repeat if necessary.
Cargo Holds: Add Foam Booster foam boosting additive to CargoTuff. Apply a 20% solution in water using appropriate equipment. Allow the solution to work for 10-15 minutes, but prevent chemicals from drying on the surface. Wash off thoroughly with high-pressure fresh water, starting from the bottom and working upwards. Repeat if contamination persists.
