TankCare Tar is ideal for cleaning tanks, heat exchangers, and air coolers from heavy tar and asphalt residues. It’s also excellent for spot cleaning stubborn deposits like dried tars and bitumen on tank walls. Due to its high concentration, TankCare Tar requires less cleaning agent for effective tank cleaning.

Instructions are based on experience and are meant only as a guide since circumstances for each tank cleaning operation vary. They are not intended to interfere with the judgment of the vessel’s responsible personnel.

Before Tank Cleaning: It is recommended to prewash tanks with hot water. For drying or semi-drying oils, a cold water prewash should be conducted immediately after cargo discharge to prevent residue hardening. After 1 cycle, slowly increase water temperature for improved prewash effectiveness. Manually remove any sediment.

Recirculation Method: Prepare a 10% solution of TankCare Tar in hot water (100 liters per ton of water) in the tank to be cleaned. Use an automatic tank washing machine to recirculate the solution for 4-8 hours at 50oC. Heating coils in the tanks being cleaned can be utilized. Ensure sufficient cleaning solution for continuous recirculation by carefully calculating the system’s volume. Pump the solution into another tank, rinse with fresh water, and drain. For chloride-free cleaning, steaming with live steam is necessary.

Spot Cleaning: TankCare Tar can be applied using spray, brush, mop, or soaking methods to coal tar, dried tars, and asphalt. Allow the product to sit for at least 20 minutes to soften and solubilize hard contaminants before rinsing.

Soaking: For heavily soiled parts, immerse them in undiluted TankCare Tar. Provide periodic agitation and ensure proper ventilation during cleaning.

Suitable for use on most common metals. Not to be used on rubbers (except Viton rubber) and plastics (except nylon, polypropylene, epoxy coating and polyurethane). It is recommended to test all cleaning chemicals on a small area of tank coating, before full scale application.
