DESCRIPTION
HoldShield is a specialized product designed to minimize costs and labor associated with discharging challenging cargoes like petcoke, coal, pencil pitch, coke, cement, ores, minerals, feedstock, and other difficult materials. Its application helps to maintain cargo holds in a clean condition, often referred to as “grain clean.”
This water-based liquid product forms a thin, temporary, non-sticky film on cargo hold surfaces. This film acts as a barrier between the cargo and the cargo hold, facilitating quicker and easier cleaning after unloading and ensuring optimal cleaning results. Notably, it can be used in cargo holds transporting foodstuffs without contaminating the cargo. HoldShield is both environmentally friendly and safe for personnel handling it.
HoldShield is non-corrosive and compatible with all coatings. For highly corrosive cargoes like sulfur and salt, a more resistant formulation, HoldShield Plus, is recommended. For easy shipping and handling, HoldShield Concentrate is also available.
APPLICATION
HoldShield acts as a barrier and release agent between the cargo hold surface and the next cargo. It should be applied to clean surfaces. Additionally, it can be sprayed on the superstructure and other areas exposed to dust during loading and unloading operations. However, caution is needed while it is still wet, due to its slippery nature.
USE AND DOSING
Instructions are based on experience and are meant only as a guide since circumstances for each tank cleaning operation vary. They are not intended to interfere with the judgment of the vessel’s responsible personnel.
Before applying HoldShield, ensure cargo residues are removed, and the surface is as dry as possible. The product is designed for direct application from the drum and does not require mixing. One liter covers approximately 15-20m2, and a 210-liter drum covers 3000-4000 square meters. For optimal application, spray the product in a sweeping pattern onto the tank surfaces, but brushing or rolling is also possible. A proper film is created when the surface appears water-wet. Avoid applying more than necessary. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for HoldShield to cure before loading cargo.
After discharging the cargo, both cargo residues and HoldShield can be easily removed using a power wash of fresh or saltwater. To ensure complete removal and prevent contaminant re-deposition, a cleaning agent like CargoCare HF is recommended, although at lower dosage rates than typically required.
